Arabic PDFs often contain contracts, ID records, government letters, certificates, court documents, invoices, and religious or educational content. These files are frequently scanned as images, so selecting and copying text is impossible. ConversionTab helps users extract Arabic text from PDF pages through a simple browser-based workflow.

The real Arabic OCR challenge
Connected letters
Arabic letters change shape depending on their position, so blurry scans can break words.
Dots and marks
Small dots may change the letter completely, especially in low-quality scans.
Mixed content
Arabic documents often contain English names, dates, numbers, and stamps.
ConversionTab’s role in this workflow
Problem: The PDF has no selectable text layer.
ConversionTab solution: Upload the file, choose Arabic, extract the visible text, then review names, dates, and legal terms before final use.
How to improve Arabic PDF scans
- Use clear scans where dots and letter shapes are visible.
- Avoid stamps or signatures covering important words.
- Use a straight scan instead of a tilted mobile photo.
- For mixed Arabic-English pages, review text direction after OCR.

رقم المستند: AR-5821

Workflow: from PDF to usable text
Before you upload
- Export or scan at a steady resolution; avoid heavy shadows across text.
- Crop to the page region you need—wide empty margins slow OCR and can pull in noise.
- If the PDF mixes Arabic with another script, plan to select every language you can see in the picker.
In ConversionTab
Upload the PDF, choose Arabic (plus any other languages on the page), turn on text from images when the file is scanned or flattened, then extract. Copy to your editor or download a .txt file for the next step in your workflow.
When to enable “text from images”
Use it whenever highlight-and-copy fails in your PDF viewer, when text appears as a picture, or when exports from scanners or mobile cameras produce image-only pages. Native text layers can stay off for faster runs, but scans almost always need OCR.
Mixed-language and noisy pages
Dots and hamza marks change meaning; mixed Arabic–English pages need both languages selected and a quick RTL/LTR check after extraction.
For tables, stamps, signatures, and watermarks, expect to tidy spacing and line breaks manually. OCR prioritizes readable characters over perfect layout preservation.
Scan and export checklist
| Signal | What to try | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Blurry small type | Re-scan at 300 DPI, reduce glare | Sharper edges for Arabic letterforms |
| Skewed photo | Straighten before PDF or rotate pages | Improves line reading order |
| Colorful background | Print to flattened greyscale test | Improves contrast for OCR |
| Password protection | Unlock locally, then extract | Engines cannot OCR locked content |
Reading order after Arabic extraction
Arabic PDFs often embed English product names, SKUs, or email addresses. Engines may output Latin fragments in an order that looks “shuffled” compared to how you read the page visually. Treat the first pass as raw material: rebuild mixed lines only after you confirm which side of the line was meant to be read first.
- Verify hamza and dot placement on proper nouns before sharing externally.
- Check digits that sit between Arabic words—they sometimes attach to the wrong clause.
- On bilingual forms, match each field label to the value on the same baseline.
When bilingual headers misalign
Common pitfall
Ministry-style PDFs with Arabic titles and English column headers can produce “striped” text where columns interleave. Narrow the crop to one table at a time, re-run extraction, and stitch the results manually if needed.
